Fitness Training the FIT-TO-GO Way

One of the hottest buzz words in the fitness world today is "functional training." On the simplest level, an exercise is functional if it mirrors the ways in which you move in the real world. Most of the activities people do involve a combination of standing, twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, starting and stopping. Athletes can add running, jumping, kicking and throwing to this list.

Functional exercises challenge you to integrate as many of these movements as possible. At FIT-TO-GO we emphasize the use of medicine balls, tubing & stability balls, as these simple tools allow you to train in a variety of planes of movement and body positions. The exercises mirror the ways in which your body moves as you play a sport or perform your activities of daily living.

We apply the same concepts to training for strength, endurance, speed, power, agility and flexibility. While we do our share of traditional weight training, an increasing amount of our conditioning focuses on circuits that require you to produce and reduce force while stabilizing your own body weight. Throw in some directional changes, body rotation and unstable surfaces and you have a workout that is both demanding and functional.

This approach of matching exercise to the way your body moves in real time can be adapted to meet the training needs of anyone. It allows us to take into account individual differences such as body type, level of fitness and degree of injury. And, most important of all: it works and is fun.
